Heritage in the School Expert

February 17th, 2015

Today, we were very fortunate to have Susanna Anker come into our school as part of the Heritage in School Scheme.

Susanna has many years experience delivering textile craft workshops to children.

Her workshops introduce the children to the world of wool – where it comes from and how it is spun, dyed, woven and felted. The children were given the opportunity to spin their own wool and to create their own piece of felt.

Thereafter, the children  examined a selection of traditional wool-spinning tools and a range of sheep’s wool skins dyed using locally grown plants.

The children also tried on and examined a selection of hand-crafted garments made from sheep’s wool.

Science with Michael Browne

December 17th, 2014

Today, we were very fortunate to have Michael Browne visit our school to carry out some experiments with our children from 1st-6th class.

The children worked in groups to carry out a number of experiments based on electricity.

The children made basic circuits, made circuits with buzzers & switches, investigated what conducts/insulates electricity, made a homemade switch and finished off with an electrical quiz!

Many thanks to Michael for travelling to our school, the lessons were thoroughly enjoyed and extremely beneficial to all.
